Authenticity verification

The authenticity of digital data is a decisive element for its admissibility in court. A digital evidence is authentic if it is a true representation of the event it is describing. Every digital object can be easily modified in its content, and easily distributed or used as original data.

For example, insertion of additional elements, removing some details, degrading the perceptual quality, are all operations that can alter the meaning the digital content conveys.

FORLAB carries out the authenticity verification by studying the digital traces that each processing applied on a digital content leaves of the signal itself. These traces (also called digital fingerprints), though imperceptible, can be extracted and analyzed to detect or exclude the presence of forgeries, as well as to locate (spatially or temporally) the exact point of the signal in which the modification occurred.
