Source device identification

To trace the device that generated a multimedia content is particularly important to get information about authenticity and origin of the data. The source device identification allows to uniquely associate an image or a video to the digital device that has acquired such a content.

For example, it is possible to determine whether a digital photo has been acquired by a given smartphone or if a set of images originate from the same digital camera.

FORLAB carries out source device identification through the extraction and the analysis of the characteristic noise left by the camera sensor within the digital visual content (image/video): this analysis requires to have access to the suspected device or to a significant number of images/videos coming from such a device.
